ikan tawes suka banget Lemna minor (duckweed)

Dulu aku pernah iseng memelihara skitar 100 ekor ikan tawes di kolam kecil dekat mata air, dan tawesku lahap sekali kalau tak kasih makan lemna minor, dan tawes tumbuh dengan cepat, 3 bulan dipelihara sudah mencapai berat rata-rata sekitar 200 gram-an per ekor, atau 1 kg isi 5 ekor ikan, lumayan cepat laju pertumbuhannya, dari bibit sebesar jari kelingking.

Menurut beberapa badan riset terpercaya yang meneliti tentang duckweed ini, rupanya kandungan protein Lemna minor bervariasi antara 16-43 % pada berat keringnya, sangat tinggi!!!.......... pantesan tawesku dapat tumbuh cepat. Selain gizi yang tinggi, lemna minor ini sangat empuk, bisa lumat sekali plintir pakai jari dan jempol, pantesan tawes suka.

Lemna minor ini banyak terdapat di sawah, genangan sawah sehabis panen, di pinggir rawapening, di rawa-rawa kecil skitar rawa pening, misalnya rawa mbalong ngampin, rawa mbalong gadingan, rawa mbalong setro, rawa balong njalen, rawa mbalong antara kali torong - kali galeh, komplek mata air ngembat, dan disawah sawah yang genangan airnya kontinyu.

Lemna minor ini dapat dibudidaya dengan mudah dan cepat. Kalau ada genangan air, atau sawah nganggur yang selalu tergenang luapan rawa, atau sawah lumpur dalam yang tidak bisa ditanami padi, bisa di pakai untuk budidaya lemna minor. Tinggal taruh saja lemna minor segenggam, tunggu sampai lemna minor menggandakan diri memenuhi genangan, sawah atau kolam, tidak butuh waktu lama. Kalau permukaan air sudah penuh dengan lemna minor, maka tinggal memanen sesuai kebutuhan. Misalnya sebagi suplemen protein untuk campuran pakan bebek, campuran pakan ayam, atau untuk memberi pakan anakan tawes atau anak grass carp. Ayamku juga suka makan lemna minor yang dicampur dedak, bebek juga suka, karena bentuknya yang imut dan empuk.

Kemarin waktu main ke Godean Jogja, aku juga melihat orang lagi nyerokin lemna minor disawah, dia sudah dapat lemna minor setengah ember cat 20 liter, katanya ikan tawes dan grasscarp di kolamnya doyan banget sama lemna minor ini.

Two breeds of ducks (Improved Common ducks and local Muscovy) were fattened with local feed resources in two sequential trials at the Duck Experimental Farm of Cantho University. The basal diet was broken rice given ad libitum (BRAL) or restricted to 80 (BR80) or 60 (BR60) g/day. On each of these treatments the ducks had free access to freshly harvested duckweed from ponds fertilized with biodigester effluent and containing 39% protein in the dry matter. There were 54 ducks of mixed sexes of the Common type and they were fed from 28 to 63 days of age on the experimental diets. A group of six ducks was allocated to each of 9 pens giving 3 replicates of each dietary treatment. The local Muscovy ducks (45) were all females. They were allocated 5 per pen to give the same number of replicates as for the Common ducks and fattened from 28 to 70 days.

Common ducks grew at the same rate as the Muscovy but ate twice as much duckweed. Their feed conversion was poorer. Decreasing the offer level of the broken rice had no effect on growth and carcass traits of the Common ducks but slight depressed growth rate and reduced weights of chest and thigh muscle in the carcass. When rice levels were restricted the Muscly ducks appeared less able to compensate by eating more duckweed as compared with the Common ducks.

A feeding system of restricted levels of broken rice (60 to 80 g/day) with free access to fresh duckweed appears to be appropriate for the Common type of duck typically used for foraging on rice fields throughout Vietnam. More research is needed in order to ascertain if the apparent capacity of Common ducks to eat large quantities of duckweed really is a comparative advantage and, if so, how this can best be used to improve the economic benefits to small scale poor farmers.

Duckweeds have received research attention because of their great potential to remove mineral contaminants from waste waters emanating from sewage works, intensive animal industries or from intensive irrigated crop production. Duckweeds need to be managed, protected from wind, maintained at an optimum density by judicious and regular harvesting and fertilised to balance nutrient concentrations in water to obtain optimal growth rates. When effectively managed in this way duckweeds yield 10-30 ton DM/ha/year containing up to 43% crude protein, 5% lipids and a highly digestible dry matter.
